Thanks to a Regional Arts Resilience grant from Regional Arts W.A. we’re throwing an all ages free community event on the grounds of our new home at the Margaret River Community Centre (MRCC).

Rise and Recover RMR

Time to Celebrate!

We’ve joined forces with the MRCC to celebrate our amazing community spirit after a challenging year.

The event on Saturday December 5th will commemorate 30 years of the MRCC at the old hospital and the launch of RMR.

It begins at 1:00pm with a special presentation of Bill Bunbury’s radio documentary “A Place of the Heart” which tells the story of how the old hospital was saved for use by the community. This doco will also be available to listen to “on-demand” on our new podcast page, ready next week. Bookings are essential via bookings@mrcc.com.au.

Fun times for everyone

The presentation will be followed by a free afternoon tea and then live music from 2:15pm with Spiff and Fifi, the Mitch Baker Duo and Mike Goodwin. DjERIK will close the show with a set of tunes to get everyone dancing.

There’s lots planned to keep kids entertained. Discover Deadly will be there, as well as Karridale Circus Arts, face painting, icecreams, giveaways and raffles.

The Soup Kitchen will be selling their famous vegan curries and there’ll be a cake stall and sausage sizzle, so come and support the people that support you.

MR SAMM

We did our first live broadcast from the MR SAMM youth event on Saturday 21st at the Skate park.

The talented Kiera Jas took on MC duties and killed it. We hope she’ll find the time to do a radio show soon.

Welcome new volunteers

It’s been so nice to have some willing volunteers coming through our doors. A big warm welcome to Alex, Diego, Paul, Mark, Oscar, Bec, Ruby and Erycka who have all joined up in the past couple of weeks and are busy developing their shows.

If you’d like to volunteer to do a show, work on the music library or help out in marketing and events please email Pip on manager@radiomargaretriver.com.

Training

Thanks to a Community Development grant from the AMR Shire we are able to offer our new volunteers some free training over the coming weeks and develop our training manuals.

This training will be invaluable and ensure we can deliver quality programming as we grow and evolve.

New Partners

We’re so pleased to welcome Cullen Wines to our stable of partners. Vanya Cullen is always willing to support worthwhile community projects and we’re honoured to have their support.

The River also joined us a few weeks ago and made it possible for us to hold an information evening for the business industry. It was a great turn out, thank you to all who came to hear about how RMR can benefit local business and creatives.

Brain Middleton, Founding member and President of Founding Partner the Rotary Club of Margaret River, spoke stirringly about the importance of supporting local community projects.

Fiona Horne and her partner Dave (Spiff and Fifi) donated their performance to close the night. Thankyou Spiff and Fifi for your generosity.
