Better Together Big Breakfast

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River invites you to join them for the Better Together Big Breakfast, a free breakfast at the HEART on Sunday 22 May at 9am to celebrate the contribution local volunteers make to our community.

Free RAT Tests & Masks at the Augusta CRC

Western Australians who are COVID close contacts are each entitled to 10 free RAT tests to help them meet testing requirements while asymptomatic (1 per day for 7 days). RAT tests are available for Augusta residents from the Augusta Hospital from 8-4 Monday-Friday, and for Margaret River residents from the Margaret River Hospital from 9-5 Monday-Friday.

There is no need to register, just turn up. More information can be found on the WA Government website.

Storytime (ages 2 – 5 years)

The Margaret River Library hosts Storytime every Tuesday at 10:30am to encourage children aged 2-5 to discover a love of books, stories, reading and rhymes. It also promotes family literacy skills.

Jacky Cheng – Artist Talks & Workshops

Jacky Cheng, a visual artist from Broome, will be holding an artist talk at the Margaret River Library on May 19 at 6pm to discuss her practice working with Orizome, a Japanese fold and dye paper art.

You can also attend a free workshop with Jacky on May 18 at the Margaret River Community Centre from 1-4pm to try this technique for yourself.

There is no need to RSVP for the workshop, but for the artist talk you will need to book via email.

Advocacy WA is holding a free Business Accessibility workshop, including lunch, on Wednesday May 18 from 9:30am-12:30 at the Shire Chambers for employers looking to improve their offerings and customer service to people with disabilities.

Lions Cancer Institute- Free Screening Bus

The Lions Cancer Institute free screening bus is going to be at The Lions shed, located at 12 Burton Rd, on Saturday 30 April & Sunday 1 May.

The Bus offers appointments to have your skin checked for cancer, and while the service is free donations can be made to support the service.

Visual Stories Art Competition & Exhibition at the HEART

Each year, the Visual Stories Art Competition and Exhibition forms an exciting part of the Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival with unique works displayed over the festival period.

This year’s exhibition theme is NO WORD LIMIT and it will be on display in the foyer at the Margaret River HEART from Tuesday 3rd May for the remainder of the month.

Margaret River Lions – change of times

Margaret River Lions have made the difficult decision to only accept donations Monday, Wednesday & Friday between 8am and 12 noon, due to the overwhelming number of donations being received.

The Lions would like to remind you that while the generosity shown is appreciated, there has also been an increase in unsaleable items which cannot be resold.

Witchcliffe Eco Village- Stage Four Site Tours

The Witchcliffe Eco Village civil is now offering free guided walking site tours of their Stage 4 build on Sundays through until the end of May.

The tour will also explore existing Stages 1-3, the Village Square development area, and take in the expanse of the site, the beautiful dams and conservation zones.

REGISTRATION FOR THE SITE TOUR IS MANDATORY and numbers will be capped at 25 people per tour – registration can be done by phone or email.

River Angels – Volunteers Required

2022 is off to a busy start for the River Angels with 14 local families requiring support while a family member struggles with cancer.

Assistance required ranges from food drops to cleaning and gardening through to short trips for appointments.

Gracetown 2022 Easter Bay Swim

The Gracetown community is holding its annual Easter Bay Swim on 16th April at the Main Beach in Cowaramup Bay. The swim is approximately 1km starting at 9.30am.

Swimmers of all abilities are welcome and the Gracetown Sea Rescue Group will be in attendance, but the most important thing is to have fun!

Call for Stitched and Bound 2022 art submissions

Creatives with a passion for quilting are encouraged to submit a piece of work for the Stitched and Bound 2022 juried exhibition of contemporary art quilts.

This year’s tour will showcase the creativity and innovative work currently produced by WA artists who challenge the usual concept of the ‘quilt’ medium. Entries close on April 30.

Showing FREE in the Foyer Gallery at the HEART until April 27, the Elementals, from Nurture to Nature show by Karin Luciano and Caroline Bannister is an expression of their personal connections to nature.

Using a variety of art media they incorporate classical iconography, mythology and abstraction to represent the natural forces of nature.

Margaret River Lions Garage Sale

The Margaret River Lions still have vacancies for community groups to work the grant in their shed on garage sale weekends.

Assistance is required Friday and Saturday mornings, with at least 2 capable of lifting heavy furniture, and all must be at least 18 years old.

There are also plenty of vacancies for groups to run the sausage sizzle on the Saturday.

Cape Walk for Life with Lifeline

Join Lifeline on Sunday April 10 at 9am for a free walk on the northern end of the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse.

The community walk is open to everyone, highlighting the importance of mental health and suicide prevention in our community. It provides an opportunity to support and encourage discussion about this important topic.

Coffee and sausage sizzle will be available for purchase following the walk.

The Ringtail Tally is now in its 8th year

Help Nature Conservation count Western ringtail possums in the Margaret River area, by registering to join this year’s Ringtail Tally on Saturday April 9.

All you have to do is count critically endangered ringtails on at least one occasion over 4 weeks.

New coastal research aims to keep coastal areas safer

The AMR Shire are programmed to undertake a coastal investigation in Augusta, starting at Albany Terrace to the north adjacent to Blackwood River entrance and Davies Road and Dawson Way connection to the south starting Monday 21 and anticipated to end Friday 25 March.

With the exception of traffic control, there is expected to be minimal disturbance to adjacent residents and no environmental impacts.
