Thank a Volunteer Awards

Nominations for the 2021 Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year Awards are now open. If there’s someone you’d like to nominate – an outstanding volunteer who deserves to be recognised – please complete and return the Shire nomination form by 3pm Friday 12th November.

All nominees will be presented with a Certificate of Appreciation at the Thank a Volunteer Day Celebration at the HEART on Thursday 9 December, when the winners will be announced.

Seniors Week 7 – 14th November

There is a full morning of free events for Seniors Week on Monday 8th November: Riversong Choir with Ruth Boyd 10-11am, followed by a morning tea. Then a film screening of Romantic Road at the HEART 11.30-12.30 No booking required.

On Tuesday 9th November there will be an Intergenerational Storytime at the Library. Grandparents can join in to celebrate Seniors Week. They have such fun with stories, songs, rhymes and craft. 10.30am-11.30am at Margaret River Library.

On the 9th & 10th are Writing Workshops, “Animals Who Talk” where author Dianne Wolfer will share practical tips about writing from animal viewpoints, 5–6.30pm. Then, “Memoir & History” where she will develop anecdotes & memoires into writing at 10-1pm. both free at Margaret River Library.

Long Table Lunch for Seniors

The “Gather & Feast Long Table Lunch” is 3 courses, inspired by the Maggie Beer Foundation, established to improve the food experiences for our seniors. At South Regional TAFE, Margaret River on Tuesday 9th November from 11.45am-1.30pm. To book, see the RMR website.

Book on 08 6371 3800 Advise dietary requirements in advance. This is a long table lunch, guests will be seated at communal tables.

 

“Stay on Your Feet”

Still during Senior’s Week, you can join a Fall Prevention Workshop. The talks and demos from this “Stay on Your Feet” session are being given by a community nurse and a Professional fitness coach, so you will be in safe hands! Augusta Rec Centre 2-3pm Wednesday 10th November.

The Margaret River Rec Centre version is on 2-3pm on Thursday 11th, at their Central Gym.

Stitching with Scraps Workshop

In Augusta next Friday, why not join the Stitching With Scraps Workshop. Come and discover new ways to use the teeniest of your scraps, old clothes, and linen, to help keep our textiles from landfill. Share stories and the wisdom of our mothers and grandmothers while rediscovering the calmness to be found in hand sewing.
